2021 South Fremantle
Festival of Lights
Sunday November 7, 2021 | South Fremantle
Diwali, the Indian, festival of light is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over adversity, and the light over darkness. The South Fremantle Community Association drew its inspiration for the South Fremantle Festival of Lights from Diwali.
It is a festival of shared goodness, humility, tolerance, diversity, togetherness and kindness. It is a time to have fun with friends, family and the broader community in mutual and shared love of dance, song, and the sheer exuberance of energy flowing from the performances.
The inaugural festival of 2020 had over 100 performers coming from all over the metropolitan area to South Fremantle. The festival drew over 17,000 people many of them being families who even brought their dogs to enjoy the event. It was a timely event to help people celebrate and to be full of gratitude for our community. The Festival of Lights helped to banish away the COVID negativity of 2020.
The success of the festival was due to the close collaboration of the local businesses, the community and the City of Fremantle. The Fremantle Ports as a major sponsor provided much needed support and was a champion throughout the process.
A special thank you to South Ward Councillor Marija Vujcic for the idea, inspiration and the tenacity to pull together a team that made the festival such a memorable event.
We look forward to everyone coming down to celebrate the South Fremantle Festival of Lights on the 7 November 2021.
